Our outdoor 6-lane, 25-meter pool is heated year round to 80 degrees, and comfortably accommodates many swimmers in our 7-foot-wide lanes.

Programs/Activities: Swimming & Aquatics

With one of the best year-round swim facilities in town, Flatiron Athletic Club is home to many of Boulder’s avid swimmers and world-class athletes. Our outdoor pool is a 25-meter, 6-lane pool heated to 80 degrees and open all year! For those who prefer to swim indoors we also have a four-lane lap pool. During the summer months our separate, outdoor Kiddie Pool is open for the smaller children.

Catering to all ages and skill levels, we offer a variety of aquatic programs for both children and adults (see below). All swim instructors have several years of teaching experience and work with people of all ages and abilities. Please see the front desk for class times and to sign up for additional swim programs.

Flatiron Athletic Club offers 20 swim training classes per week from Sunday through Friday. All of these classes are held in the outdoor 25-meter pool, which is heated year round to between 80 and 81º, and comfortably accommodates many swimmers in our 7-foot-wide lanes. All of these classes are offered free to our members as part of their membership. Non-members can pay a daily fee to train with any of our world-class coaches as well; please see our membership department for details.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

AQUA BLAST—A 60-minute interval training class in the water, alternating 1-minute bursts of high-intensity cardiovascular movement with 2-minute recovery periods.

AQUA FITNESS—This class is designed to challenge students in a resistive water environment. Participants use both deep water and shallow water moves that involve little or no impact. Various types of flotation equipment are used and no swimming is involved.

KIDS SUMMER CLINICS—Summer clinics are available in June and July for children ages 4-11. Sign up your child at the front desk for one- week sessions, running Mondays-Thursdays for $50 per week ($15 non-member surcharge per week).

KIDS STROKE DEVELOPMENT SWIM CLASSES—Sign-ups for classes take place on a monthly basis, payment due on first day of class. Please contact Anna Scott at or 303-748-8371 to register and for pricing information.

BEGINNING SWIM TRAINING—This class is geared towards swimmers who would like to start taking the masters swim training classes, and would also like to learn proper form and swim technique. This class will ease transition into the master class.

PRIVATE CHILDREN’S SWIM LESSONS—Private lessons are available for children aged 2-7, taking place from 3:00pm – 5:00pm M/W/F and 2:30pm – 4:30 pm on T/TH. The lessons only use one lane, and sharing lanes is encouraged. Please contact Anna Scott-Kube at or 303-748-8371 to register and for pricing information.

SENIOR FIT CLUB—Classes for active older adults. Sign up at the front desk and pick up a brochure for more information.

SWIM TRAINING—Participants usually swim about 2500—3000 meters, but can modify the class based on their individual needs and strengths. Instructor provides help with stokes, starts and turns.

SWIM TRAINING WITH DAVE SCOTT—This class is similar to Swim Training, but is geared more toward triathlon training, with workouts specifically designed for the multi-sport athlete. Most participants compete during the triathlon racing season, so the workouts are based on a year-round training cycle and include stroke work.

SWIMMING TIPS
  • Please expect to share lap lanes while swimming. Split a lane with one other swimmer, or circle swim (swimming with people of similar ability in a counter clockwise rotation) if sharing with more than 1 person.
  • We attempt to keep one (1) open lane during all swim classes. Please check the current schedule.
  • Some experienced swimmers may appear to be swimming in a class when they are in fact swimming on their own. Don’t be shy! Please ask to share a lane.
  • Please note that all water aerobic classes will move indoors during inclement weather.

POOL ETIQUETTE

SPLIT—If there is someone swimming in a lap lane and you would like to share the lane, let the person in the lane know you would like to SPLIT the lane.

CIRCLE—If you are sharing with 3 or more swimmers in a lane, try to get into a lane with swimmers of similar ability and circle in a counter clock-wise rotation.

  • If there are no cones in front of the lane, then the lane is available for all to swim.
  • There are many experienced swimmers who may appear to be swimming in a class, but are in fact swimming on their own. Don’t be shy! Please ask to share a lane.
  • Occasionally, there will be clinics or one-time classes that will not be included in the permanent schedules. Please look for these to be posted on the Aquatics board located by the front desk.
