Class Changes and Updates
As we move into the Spring season, we are consistently changing our class schedules to meet the needs of our members. In the month of March, we will be changing some class instructors in an effort to keep things as fresh and new as possible, and also adding a great new class to try out this month! The following classes are now being led by new instructors:

* Tuesday Cardio Sculpt at 8:00 am will be led by Vanessa
* Thursday Cardio Sculpt at 8:00 am will be let by Sue
* Tuesday Cycling at 6:00 pm will led by Stephanie
* Thursday Cycling at 6:15 am will be led by Tony

In addition to these class changes, we will also be adding a new Jazz Dance Class with Victoria on Wednesday afternoons from 4:15 pm to 5:30 pm. There has been tremendous response to our other Jazz Dance class on Mondays and we are excited to offer a second class to accommodate members who work out in the afternoons. If you haven't tried this great class, we encourage anyone to try it out!
We also have a new Pilates Mat class that has recently started; it is on Wednesdays at 11 am in the gym, and we have already had a very good turnout for the class even though it is only 2 weeks old! Mat classes are always in high demand and we believe that this will be good time for people to take advantage of a new class.

As always, we love to see new people getting involved with different types of classes, and as always, we will be offering introductory classes for classes that you may not yet be familiar with:

Intro to Yoga will be held on Sunday, March 14th, from 2 pm-3 pm.
Intro to Pilates Mat classes will be held on Saturday, March 20th, from 11 am-12 pm
We hope to see you there!

March Special Events
During the month of March, FAC will be offering several special lectures and events for our members, as well as contributing to some fund-raising events that we are very proud to be a part of. On Friday, March 12th from 6pm-10pm we will be donating our basketball court to host a dodgeball tournament benefiting Birambye International, an organization raising funds to develop wind turbines in Rwanda, creating economic development and a clean, sustainable energy source.

We will also be hosting a Racquetball-A-Thon here at the Club on Sunday, March 28th from 8am-6pm, where a former USA Racquetball Board Member will take on all challengers for a donation fee. All proceeds from this event will be used to help contribute to the Avon Walk For Breast Cancer. Flatiron Athletic Club is proud to be a sponsor for both of these great events and believe in contributing to charitable organizations whenever possible.
Lastly, we will be hosting a Yoga clinic to benefit Haiti on Saturday, March 27th from 2pm-4pm with Brent Miller. This class will focus on the relationship between unlocking your shoulders and tapping into your core's true potential. We request a minimum donation of $20 for this clinic, and you can register and pay through the front desk. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross to benefit Haiti.

There will also be two lectures taking place in the month of March that all members are welcome to attend at no fee. Allison Wagner, head Personal Trainer at FAC will be giving a lecture entitled "Strength Training for the Everyday Athlete" and will be held on Wednesday, March 31st at 6pm in the FAC lobby. This workshop will focus primarily on muscular imbalances as well as core strength training, and will be a highly educational lecture for anyone i

nterested in optimizing body performance.
Additionally, courtesy of the Sports Nutritionists at Max Muscle Sports Nutrition, FAC will be hosting a "Nutrition 101" seminar on Thursday, March 18. Learn how to make your body work for you!" Check here for complete details!

Staff Profile

In our continuing practice of profiling our staff here at FAC, we are very proud to formally introduce our Group Fitness Director, Mary Yamona! Mary has been working in the fitness industry since 1980. She moved to Boulder in 1989 and began working for Flatiron Athletic Club the in the same year. In addition to being Director, she personally teaches a wide variety of very popular fitness classes here at the Club.
Mary says that she is genuinely appreciative of all of her students who take time out of their busy schedules to come in and take her classes, and she is constantly working to keep up with the newest fitness trends to keep her classes new and exciting. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and well educated instructor here at FAC, and we encourage all of our members to stop in and take a class led by Mary, or even just say hello when you see her around the Club. She is one of the friendliest and most enthusiastic people you will meet here!

Note From the Owners
Since taking over here at FAC we have made a very conscious effort to become more environmentally friendly and responsible and we welcome all of the great feedback and ideas we have received from our members. We are frequently asked about the measures that we have taken, and so we would like to take the opportunity to share with you some of the strides we have made during our time here:
-We worked closely with a great company called the Energy Optimizer Company, and have changed our lighting in the club from T12 lights to T8 lights, which are much more energy efficient and provide for better light output, while having a much longer lifespan.
-We have implemented several water conservation practices, such as using more efficient washing machines, and several other smaller changes throughout the club which has led to a savings of over 100,000 gallons of water EACH MONTH!
-We have reduced the amount of waste going to landfill by focusing on using the blue recycle bins located throughout the club; this has eliminated the pick-up of over 8 dumpster bins each month.
-Working closely with Eco-cycle, In 2009, we recycled over 7,820 lbs. of waste; that is almost 4 tons of material that would have otherwise gone to landfill.
- Eco-cylce also confirmed that last year we saved over 15,529 kilowatt hours of energy because of the efficiencies we now have in place.
-We believe that we have some of the most environmentally conscious members anywhere, and you have helped us become as green as possible by riding a bike or running to the club, using smaller towels for your workouts, and helping conserve water in the showers.
-We believe that it is the responsibility of every individual and certainly business, to do whatever is possible to help the environment. We will continue to make changes and improvements here at the Club to achieve that end, and we love to hear from our members about as many ideas and suggestions as possible!

Yours in Health,
Jens and Keith
